Massively Multiplayer
You’ll often hear Star Wars: The Old Republic referred to as a ‘Massively Multiplayer Online’ game, or ‘MMO’ for short. This means that, in order to play the game, you have to be connected to the internet at all times. Think of your PC as a window into The Old Republic galaxy. The galaxy itself exists inside a vast network of computers, and your PC opens the gate for you to get in.
Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums is a story-driven online game set in the Star Wars™ galaxy, during an age where the galaxy is on the brink of war. In the game, you create your own hero based on the classic Star Wars roles, including Jedi Knights, Sith Lords, Bounty Hunters, Smugglers, and more. Embark on an epic personal saga, facing great challenges and making decisions that determine your path down the light or dark side of the Force. Whether you play with your friends or people you meet for the first time in- game, you choose how your destiny unfolds.
We want you to enjoy the experience from the very start whether you’re new to Massively Multiplayer Online games, or a seasoned veteran.
The ‘Massively -Multiplayer’ part simply means you’ll be playing in the same game space with thousands of other players. In fact, you’ll see other players soon after you first login. You can join up with others anytime, but if you prefer, you can play through your own personal storyline and many other parts of the game entirely on your own.
